Start with the falls
Before any drainage product is chosen, the surface must slope in a deliberate direction — away from the house, away from garage thresholds, and not towards the public footway.
Plenty of standing-water complaints are simply a level problem. No amount of channel drain fixes a driveway that falls towards the wrong place.
Channel drains (linear drainage)
A channel drain set across the entrance or along a garage threshold intercepts run-off and takes it to an appropriate outlet. It is the standard answer where a driveway slopes towards a building or the highway.
The critical detail is what the channel connects to. A channel that discharges nowhere useful just moves the puddle.
Soakaways
A soakaway is a below-ground void that holds water and lets it infiltrate the surrounding ground. It works well in free-draining soils and keeps run-off within your own boundary, which is what the surface water rules expect.
On heavy clay, infiltration is slow and a soakaway can fill faster than it empties. We assess ground conditions before recommending one rather than assuming it will work.
Permeable surfaces
The most elegant answer is often to stop creating run-off in the first place. Resin bound on a permeable build-up, or permeable block paving with an open-graded sub-base, lets water pass through the surface and store in the base.
That removes the need for visible drainage across the driveway and keeps everything compliant on properties with no obvious outlet.

Frequently asked questions
Water pools on my existing driveway — can it be fixed without a full replacement?+
Sometimes. Localised regrading or adding a channel drain can solve it. If the base has settled, the fix has to go deeper.
Can I connect driveway drainage to my downpipe or foul drain?+
Surface water must not go to a foul drain. The correct outlet depends on your property's existing arrangement and we check it before designing anything.
Does permeable paving still work on clay?+
The base can be designed to store water and release it slowly, but on very heavy clay we may combine it with another solution.
